Despite his greatness and exalted status, Aaron also erred - in the sin of the Golden Calf he failed in his attempt to stop the people from idolatry, but the sages teach that his intention was good and that he tried to buy time until Moses' return. Aaron passed away on Mount Hor at age 123, and all of Israel mourned him for thirty days, both men and women - an honor given only to him and not even to Moses, testifying to the people's love for him.
